Ann P Shaw specializes in pieced art quilts based on the methods developed by Ruth B McDowell. Ann also creates modern/abstract art quilts based on repeated asymmetrical block patterns of her own design. After an academic career as an anthropologist and forensic specialist, Ann followed her long time passion in founding “Ann Shaw Quilting“. (www.AnnShawQuilting.com; AnnShawQuilting@gmail.com) She designs pieced quilt patterns and offers a variety of quilting classes, quilt retreats and lectures.
Places Ann has taught include the The Quilter’s Hall of Fame, A Quilter’s Affair, Empty Spools Seminars, Oregon’s Stormy Weather Artist Weekend, Historic Deerfield Workshops, Cascadia Quilt Workshops and Historic Deerfield, MA. She offers workshops and quilt retreats for Guilds and shops throughout the US and Canada. She was Featured Artist at Empty Spools Seminars in 2011.
Her quilts have been featured in books and magazines (most recently in The Quilt Life Magazine , “Indah”, Featured in “Its My Nature”, June 2013). An experimental art quilt design (“Ghost Experiment”) was featured in Ghost Layers (2001) by Katie Pasquini Masopust.
Ann publishes a line of pictorial quilt patterns , “Ann Shaw Quilting Designs” , that are available through quilt shops.
Ann is also Krasnow Professor Emerita, The Krasnow Institute for Advanced Study at George Mason University, Fairfax, VA.
