LINE, SHAPE AND DESIGN IN QUILTS: This lecture presents an overview of my approach to designing quilts and the how differing choices can influence the look of a quilt. A series of examples illustrate my design process, from creating a pattern to unusual fabric choices. I am happy to answer questions from the audience during my presentation. (1 hour)
PLAYING WITH FABRICS: Unusual fabric choices is a hallmark of my pictorial quilt style. In this presentation, I discuss the design qualities inherent in printed fabrics and the ways fabric choices contribute to the overall visual impact of a quilt. Quilts from many eras as well as my own work serve to illustrate how I select and audition printed fabrics that bring pictorial quilts to life. I am happy to take questions from the audience during my presentation. (1 hour)
THE CRAFT OF ART QUILTS: Debates about the “art” verses the “craft” of quilts attempt to address the aesthetics and processes of quiltmaking. In this presentation, I discuss the qualities inherent in what we do as quilters and common hallmarks shared by all quilts. Quilts from many eras as well as my own work serve to illustrate how quilts are inherently both “art” and “craft”. I am happy to take questions from the audience. (1 hour)
