Its nearly fall and time to make some leaf blocks. I love this time of year as the warmth of summer yields to cooler weather. I thought it would be fun to try my hand at making some leaf blocks. And that lead to creating a 2 day class on Design Basics that focuses on leaves………all kinds of leaves. I’ve many favorites, among them Maples leaves. Their shape is iconic and the array of colors they turn in the fall is glorious.
So here is my first take on a Maple leaf.
Leaves are perfect subjects for learning some basics about quilt block design. Their shapes and color variations are open invitations for using many different fabrics. Their flat veined surfaces translate well into a quilt block. And they look great as blocks arrayed in a bed quilt or as a single gorgeous piece.
