What an amazing time I had as Artist in Residence at Empty Spools Seminars. Its been wonderful to see many of my recent quilts on display in the large lecture space that Merrill Hall offers at Asilomar. Its was a great way to share my work and chat with many quilters. Here you see “Joe Cool” , “Dogwood” and my new rooster quilt, “Gallus gallus”, along side two new pieces that I started at Empty Spools last week.
This shows my progress of “Wild Iris”. The small photo on the bottom right is a picture I took of the beautiful Iris that bloom in the spring. After translating this photo into a pieceable quilt design, I’ve begun the process of auditioning fabric for this quilt. Using freezer paper templates for each piece allows me to work out just the right combination of colors and fabrics for the entire quilt before I then piece it. The patterned background fabric adds an interesting liveliness to the overall quilt.
