Abstract Brain

January 24, 2012 By Ann

Abstract Brain (2002, 58×38) The logo for the Krasnow Institute (a brain and cognition research Institute with which I am professionally affiliated in as an anthropologist) is a line drawing abstraction of a brain. I loved the challenge of translating this logo into a quilt. Based primarily on fence rail blocks, I matched each block to the grid of logo’s design. Presented to the founding director, this quilt is now on  permanent exhibit in the lobby of the Institute.   (Sold, Institutional Collection)

Tucked into a corner of this quilt, the odd bits we mull over in our minds……….

For students looking for a fine instructor for the Ruth B. McDowell style of quilt design, I strongly recommend Ann P. Shaw's classes.
